Skydiving - the 5 most spectacular jumps in Switzerland
Skydiving is an absolutely extreme experience, also known as parachuting. You'll be flown by a small aircraft to a jump altitude of several thousand meters, where you jump out of the plane. Enjoy the view from a bird’s eye perspective, feel the rush of wind on your face, and plummet toward the ground at breathtaking speed.
The free fall lasts about 45 to 50 seconds, during which you’ll reach speeds of around 200 km/h. Your tandem partner, to whom you are securely harnessed, opens the parachute at a certain altitude and brings you safely back to solid ground.
The stunning and diverse landscapes make Switzerland an ideal location for a skydive. You can choose whether to jump over a city, above a lake, or surrounded by mountain peaks.
Here’s a quick overview of five popular jumps in Switzerland.
Luzern-Beromünster Skydiving
In Luzern-Beromünster, tandem jumps are available for those aged eight and up. During a roughly 20-minute flight in the small aircraft, you'll enjoy views of the lakes, including Sempachersee, Baldeggersee, Hallwilersee, and of course, Vierwaldstättersee.
In between, you can see the mountainous landscape around the 872-meter high Stierenberg. You’ll also be able to spot the cities of Aarau and Zurich from this height. Jumps are conducted daily from March to October at four fixed times. The jump occurs from an altitude of about 4,000 meters.
Up to fifty jumps can take place each day, allowing for group events as well. The aircraft can accommodate seven people, so you can easily bring a few friends along on this adventure.

Interlaken Reichenbach Skydiving
A skydive from 4,000 to 4,600 meters awaits you in Reichenbach in the Kandertal. Close to Interlaken, you'll enjoy a 15 to 20-minute flight with views of Lake Brienz, Lake Thun, and the stunning trio of peaks: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. On clear days, you might even spot the Matterhorn in the distance.
The free fall from the plane lasts up to 55 seconds, giving you a thrilling adrenaline rush. After your tandem partner opens the parachute, you’ll glide together for several minutes towards the ground.

Skydiving in Interlaken
A skydive doesn't always have to happen from a plane. You can also get flown to your jump height by helicopter. This allows you to get even closer to the mountains and enjoy the breathtaking views. You can experience this in Interlaken.
The Eiger Jump helicopter ride starts with a 10-15 minute tour around the Eiger's summit, before you jump from 4,300 meters above the Eigernordwand with your tandem instructor and enjoy 45 seconds of free fall. This jump in front of the majestic Eigernordwand is something you won't forget anytime soon.

Locarno Skydiving
The Para Centro Locarno skydiving center in Ticino offers tandem flights and AFF jumps for participants over twelve years old and 1.50 m tall. If you want to jump, you must first pass a small sports test here. For this you run over 500 m in no more than 2.5 min.
After passing the test you can start and you will be flown with the airplane "Pilatus Porter" to a jumping height of approx. 4000 m. The subsequent free fall lasts about 50 seconds until your tandem partner opens the parachute at an altitude of 1500 meters. From here you enjoy a scenic and silent flight back to the safe ground.

Zurich Skydiving
From the airfield in Fehraltorf you can do a skydive every Friday between April and October. In the Zurich Oberland you jump out of the plane at an altitude of 3000 meters. Nevertheless, the free fall is almost one minute before the parachute opens. If you want, you can be filmed and look at your fluttering face afterwards.
Before the jump, you can enjoy a comfortable sightseeing flight with a view of the landscape all the way to Lake Zurich and back. The minimum age for this skydive is 16 years and from 60 years a medical certificate must be presented.

Frequently asked questions
Skydiving · answered by our editorial team
For whom is skydiving suitable?
In principle, anyone can participate in tandem jumping from the age of at least eight years. Sometimes jumps are only allowed from the age of 16. However, written consent from all legal guardians is always a must for minors under 18
Each jumper should be of normal physical fitness and must not weigh more than one hundred kilograms with clothing. You must not have any problems with your back, shoulders or neck, and because of the pressure compensation, your ears must also be healthy. Contact lenses are not a problem
How safe is skydiving?
Safety is the most important thing. Therefore, you will get a short training on the ground about the most important things that await you and that you must pay attention to. This includes the procedure of the jump and practicing the correct posture. You are firmly connected to the tandem master during the jump in your jumpsuit
The parachute is equipped with an automatic opening system during the tandem jump. It opens even if the tandem master cannot do so for some reason. As soon as the rate of descent at a defined altitude (usually 225 meters above ground) exceeds a preset value, the reserve is released. The failure of both parachutes is very unlikely
What is the general procedure for skydiving?
The jump usually takes place from 4000 meters above sea level and already during the approach you have a great view of the landscape and the alpine massif. Switzerland is well suited for skydiving all year round. In total you should plan half a day. The free fall takes about 45 to 50 seconds. You will reach a speed of about 200 km/h. Then the parachute is opened and after about six minutes of parachute flight you land safely on the ground
Often additional passenger seats in the plane (without jump) can be booked and spectators are also welcome on the ground. In addition to tandem jumps, solo jumps are also offered as first jumps and AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) training in several levels.
How did skydiving originate in Switzerland?
The first idea came from Leonardo da Vinci, but it remained at first. The first parachute jump then took place in France in the 18th century, but it was only after the end of the Second World War that parachuting developed further as a sport. Before that, it was common in Switzerland exclusively as a military means of transport for parachute reconnaissance pilots. Skydiving now refers to a sporting parachuting that is performed as an aerial sport.
