In the Kinderzoo of Circus Knie, the encounter between people and animals takes centre stage. You can feed the monkeys, stroke the rhinoceros, ride the camels, look the giraffes in the eyes from the giraffe terrace, shower the elephants (still in the Kinderzoo), stroke the ponies too, and have your photo taken with the sea lions when they are not performing their tricks in the show. Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil houses around 300 animals from 58 species. Two of the species, the Asian elephant and the Rothschild giraffe, are threatened with extinction. In 2015, the new Himmapan elephant park and the Restaurant-Lodge directly by the lake opened in the Kinderzoo, a fascinating, spacious complex. Inside the zoo, the Rösslitram and steam train run. An adventure playground, climbing whale and pirate ship offer playful variety. The Kinderzoo is 150 m from Rapperswil station.
