About this place

This village house from the 19th century preserves the memory of a region that was long isolated in its mountains. The museum holds a collection of folk art: paper-cuttings by Hauswirth (1809-1871) and Saugy (1871-1953); documents from the Gruyère period; watercolours by Abram-David Pilet (1745-1810) and Nicolas Gachet (1736-1817), as well as drawings and engravings. In the museum, you discover the beginnings of tourism and a collection of craftspeople's tools, weapons, keys, locks, waffle irons, a smithy, various farm objects and a collection of cowbells. All these exceptional objects are displayed in 15 rooms, several of them recreated as former chalet rooms (kitchens, living room, bedrooms) with their inlaid or painted furniture and coloured glass pictures; together, they give an impression of the atmosphere that prevailed in these former homes.
