Stadtmuseum Rapperswil-Jona
About this place
The striking building with its perforated bronze façade has been the museum’s hallmark since 2012. It serves as the entrance foyer and links the Breny House from 1492 with the imposing residential tower. Inside, the new building impresses with its refined lighting, while the old buildings delight with their atmospheric rooms. A completely newly conceived exhibition explores the eventful history of the town of Rapperswil-Jona: urban development and noble ways of living, goldsmiths’ craft, war stories, industrialisation, tourism and Circus Knie – the range of themes is broad. Very precious and very simple objects bring to life the everyday world of people in earlier times. Film and audio stations create entertaining links to the present. And every so often, it is worth looking out of the windows over the old town and Lake Zurich. The Stadtmuseum is aimed at a broad audience, including families, schools, tourists and anyone interested in culture.
