Frau schafft. Alltag zwischen Küche und Konventionen

About this place
Back then, it was clear: women belonged at the stove. The everyday life of wives, mothers and housewives was shaped by physically hard housework, without electricity, running water or modern aids. From sunrise until late evening, they cooked, sewed, preserved, looked after the household and kept everything organised. The tour shows how women more than 100 years ago managed family life with perseverance and ingenuity. The kitchen or linen cupboard was seen as a mirror of female virtues such as diligence, order and cleanliness. Period advice books such as «Heimchen am Herd» or «das fleissige Hausmütterchen» underline the role model of the time. With: Katharina Ebneter, archaeologist Free visit from 13:00–16:00.
