Olaf Breuning - Humans
About this place
Olaf Breuning (*1970, Schaffhausen) is one of the most internationally successful Swiss artists of his generation. With the exhibition «Humans», the artist returns to his hometown of Schaffhausen – 25 years after his first presentation at the Museum zu Allerheiligen. Breuning’s works playfully move between drawing, photography, video, sculpture and installation. With humour, irony and a deliberately simple visual language, he turns his gaze to the here and now. His works show people in all their contradictions: between curiosity and naivety, progress and irresponsibility. The exhibition focuses on our relationship with the world – for example the exploitation of resources and the ecological crisis. Breuning lays bare human weaknesses without losing sight of the absurd and the comic. His works invite you to reflect on our behaviour – and draw your own conclusions, in the tension between disillusionment and confidence. Exhibition opening: Friday, 5 June 2026, 18:30
