About this place

The 1970s were a period of upheaval in Switzerland and internationally: a spirit of experimentation left a lasting mark on art and society. Starting from the Aarau scene and the Ziegelrain studio community, the exhibition connects local, regional and national positions. Pop Art, Nouveau Réalisme and conceptual approaches meet in dialogue – together and side by side. A particular focus is on the collective ways of working of the time, such as studio communities and co-authorship. What can we take with us, fifty years later, from this new departure? With Herbert Distel, Helmut Federle, Heiner Kielholz, Rosina Kuhn, Olivier Mosset, Markus Müller, Václav Pozárek, Klaudia Schifferle, Daniel Spoerri, Hugo Suter, Gillian White and many other defining artists.
