The collections of the Fondation Baur Musée des Arts d'Extrême-Orient – rich in nearly 9,000 works of art from China and Japan – are housed in an elegant late-19th-century townhouse. Swiss collector Alfred Baur (1865-1951) created a remarkable group of Chinese ceramics from the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing periods, Chinese jade from the Qing period, and Chinese tobacco bottles from the 18th to the 19th century. Visitors can also admire Japanese works of art, including ceramics, lacquerware, prints, netsuke and sword fittings. In the field of the Far East, these collections are the most important open to the public in Switzerland.
