Few school subjects are linked to as many emotions as PE. With this sentence, the Turngeräte-Museum welcomes visitors. The exhibition shows 300 years of the history of gymnastics. It also addresses controversial topics such as the political side of gymnastics, gender questions and the rivalry between gymnastics and sport. In a contemporary scenographic staging, rare historical gymnastics apparatus are presented in a small space. Most of them came from the dissolved Schweizerisches Sportmuseum. Alongside the well-known gymnastics apparatus, they include the possibly oldest surviving pommel horse from 1730, with head and tail, a Gerpfahl from the 19th century and the universal gymnastics apparatus from 1900, which can be converted from parallel bars into a horizontal bar. The many photographs, films and historical books let visitors immerse themselves in the world of gymnastics of the time as contemporary witnesses.
