About this place

Gilded onion domes, bright colours, curved lines, uneven windows, uneven floors, colourful ceramic columns, shady arcades. A fairy-tale castle in the middle of the industrial area. Excursion destination, museum, gallery, shop and event venue under one roof, topped by four bright gold domes. Markthalle Altenrhein is an architectural project based on the idea and concept of the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The only one built anywhere in Switzerland. It lies in the immediate vicinity of Lake Constance, the city of St. Gallen, Appenzellerland and directly on the international Lake Constance cycle path. The whole hall and the bistro are wheelchair accessible.
