Gabi Fuhrimann
Aargauer Kunsthaus
About this place
The small-format works by the Aargau artist Gabi Fuhrimann (1958–2021) invite you to move closer. The mostly square, geometrically constructed paintings are arranged like a mosaic. Often, the central motif is a woman. The body then almost disappears into the play of colours — but not quite. Our closeness to the image creates an intimate viewing, like before a devotional picture, in which we see the figure reading, dancing, with arms outstretched. Any one of us could be this woman: the image thus becomes a surface for projection, or even a mirror. The Aargauer Kunsthaus collected works while the artist was still alive and is dedicating a collection focus to her.
