Village tour – historic houses trail in Bönigen
Dates
About this place
Bönigen has an old village quarter of national importance. Wooden houses from the 16th to 19th centuries shape the village centre, which has fortunately never been destroyed by a major fire. Since 1549, numerous buildings from every construction period have been preserved here in a small area. Wood was an early and suitable material for house building for the people of Bönigen. At first, the houses were functional buildings, then from the 16th century the desire for artistic design awoke. The historic village centre, with its carved wooden houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, provides the proof.
