Hope as a Crutch. New presentation of the contemporary art collection
Museum zu Allerheiligen Schaffhausen
About this place
The current contemporary art collection presentation consists of new acquisitions and holdings that have not been shown for a long time. The starting point is the drawing “Ohne Titel (Stelzen)” by Ulrich Meister. It shows a pair of stilts, a children's toy long forgotten. Today, the form rather recalls crutches. The shift between humorous lightness and sombre seriousness resonates throughout all the exhibition spaces. Selected works from the art-historical collection create cross-epoch connections. Again and again, the exhibits also address the attempt to overcome spaces, obstacles, social labels and crises. If you are hopeful nowadays, you may need supporting aids. Or, in the end, are those better off who have already lost hope?
