Exhibition

About this place

Opening 22 May 2026, 18:30 This cabinet exhibition is dedicated to the work of St. Gallen artist Arthur Beyer (1904–1982), who worked throughout his life as a painter and graphic artist. In the 1960s and 1970s, he developed his own visual language, in which he subjected everyday motifs such as railway stations and bridges, streets and rows of houses to formal simplification. His flat paintings of built landscapes appear anonymised and typified, yet at the same time unfold remarkable analytical power. In his painting, Beyer anticipates postmodern urban landscapes in which the built environment itself becomes the main character and, at the same time, a symbol of the environment.
