MASTERPIECES OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART The museum in Riehen, near Basel, is internationally known for its top-class exhibitions, its major collection of classical modern art and contemporary art, and its ambitious events programme. The museum building, designed by Renzo Piano, is idyllically set in the park with its old trees and lily ponds. Its location in the middle of a leisure area, with views of cornfields, cow pastures and vineyards at the foothills of the Black Forest, is unique. In the adjoining park, Fondation Beyeler is building a new museum with the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, further strengthening the harmonious connection between art, architecture and nature.
