About this place
PROG AROUND THE WORLD British retro-prog band Big Big Train comes to Pratteln in autumn 2026. With the comprehensive live recording “Are We Nearly There Yet? – Live Around The World”, the band released a gripping document of its latest tours in October 2025. On the upcoming European tour, the band will once again present songs from all phases of its three-and-a-half-decade career. Even after 35 years, Big Big Train still delivers exceptional productivity: for the past 10 years, at least one studio and/or live album has been released every year. Quantity does not diminish quality. The musicians’ creativity remains undimmed. Founded in Bournemouth in 1990, Big Big Train has grown, with 17 studio albums and various EPs and live releases, into an internationally successful progressive rock act, with high chart positions (#1 in the UK rock charts), several renowned awards (four-time winners of the Progressive Music Awards) and countless sold-out concerts. Big Big Train stays true to its roots, but also takes new paths. The band draws on influences from various genres and holds its own as an accomplished border-crosser between pop, rock and prog in the style of English bands from the early 70s. In September 2023, Big Big Train were last with us at Z7 with their “The Journey Continues Tour”. The colleagues at diebuehrers.com wrote about the live spectacle: “The 7-piece band and its additional brass section showed from the outset why they are rightly storming the charts. The multi-talented international band from Great Britain, the USA, Italy, Sweden and Norway consisted of lead singer Alberto Bravin (PFM), drummer Nick D'Virgilio (Genesis, Spock's Beard, Tears For Fears), guitarist/keyboardist Rikard Sjöblom (Beardfish, Gungfly), violinist Clare Lindley (Stackridge), bassist Gregory Spawton, keyboardist Oskar Holldorff (Dim Gray) and rising guitar star Maria Barbieri. With a varied setlist, the band offered a great selection of classics and, of course, songs from their new album ‘Ingenious Devices’. It was a mighty rolling prog train.” By now, 2024 has brought another studio album, “The Likes Of Us”. In October 2025, the live album “Are We Nearly There Yet? – Live Around The World” followed, documenting the Britons’ fantastic concerts of recent years. For it, Gregory Spawton and exceptional singer Alberto Bravin selected the best recordings from past tours. Among them are Big Big Train favourites and current tracks, captured in front of enthusiastic fans in the USA, the UK and Europe. Featuring: Big Big Train
