Inspired by Italy. Karl Bickel
About this place
A journey that changes everything – and never quite ends. In 1912/13, Karl Bickel travels to Italy. Along the way, his attention turns to architecture, spaces and their structures; in Carrara, he tries working with stone for the first time. This approach is necessarily brief and fragmentary – yet it still has an effect for decades. The exhibition opens up new, previously little-known insights into this formative period and shows how Bickel’s experience of Italy continues in his later work – in the Paxmal, in his marble works and beyond.
