About this place

Imposing corner building from the 15th century. In 1515, two projecting half-timbered storeys were added to the three-storey stone building. The delicate stone oriel stands out. The house is the birthplace of Johann Rudolf Schmid, Freiherr von Schwarzenhorn, who worked as imperial resident at the Turkish sultan’s court from 1629 to 1643. In 1914, the façade was painted with a depiction of his arrival in 1664 in Stein am Rhein.
