About this place

It is a landscape that made history: Seelisberg high above Vierwaldstättersee has been a well-known place of pilgrimage since the 16th century, and later a popular destination for trips out. The view from this rocky spur at the entrance to Urnersee charmed spa guests and crowned heads alike. Visitors came by water to Treib, a secure harbour with a long-established Gasthaus. The opening of the Treib-Seelisberg funicular in 1916 made the ascent and descent to the lake easier. Today, this nostalgic railway gives its guests a special attraction: a very leisurely sunset ride to the lake, while fondue gives off its aromas on the tables in the compartments and a harmonica player provides the right musical entertainment. After the coffee and dessert break on the terrace of Gasthaus Treib, you head back through the night, lit by countless lights on the lake and mountain peaks, to Seelisberg. For groups of 10 to 25 people by prior booking; daily outside timetable hours.
