Hike to the Hörnli hut from Schwarzsee Zermatt

Together with the mountain guide you take the cable cars to the mountain station Schwarzsee. Here begins the approximately 2-hour hike to the Hörnlihütte. The Hörnlihütte is open from July to mid-September. You have the possibility to eat something here. The hike then goes back to the Schwarzsee mountain railway station.

Requirements:

• T 3 - demanding mountain hiking: " Path on the ground not necessarily visible throughout. Exposed areas may be secured with ropes or chains. You may need your hands for balance. Partly exposed places with danger of falling, scree areas, pathless scree. If marked according to SWW standards: white-red-white. "(Source: SAC hiking scale)

The Hörnli hut is located at 3260 m above sea level on the Hörnli ridge. Built more than 130 years ago, it now has room for up to 150 overnight guests. The restaurant can seat 130 guests. The path from Schwarzsee to the hut is marked. Safety ropes, chains and metal handholds secure the path, which also includes stairs. Once you reach your destination, you will experience a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn and the surrounding valley.

The first ascent of the Matterhorn was made from here on 14.07.1865. Today, this route is considered the normal route for the ascent.

• Good walking shoes
• Small backpack, max. 20 liters
• Comfortable hiking clothes, warm or waterproof depending on the weather
• Water and windproof jacket
• Cap and sun hat, possibly cap

• Little, but energy-rich food
