Description

This full-day, professionally guided expedition takes you through the Hölloch cave system to the spectacular underground waterfall, Wasserdom.

At the Hölloch Center, you and your group will meet your certified caving guide. You'll be equipped with everything you need for this expedition. A helmet, climbing gear, headlamp, and more will be provided.

During the 7-hour expedition to Wasserdom, you follow the huge main passage to the giant hall. From there, you climb up to the old Dom bivouac and enjoy a well-deserved meal break. Afterwards, you visit Wasserdom with its 30-meter-high underground waterfall. There, you discover the "Nyphargus," a small cave amphipod that has lived here for thousands of years. Then you begin the gradual journey back.

Practical information:

  • Good fitness, agility, and sure-footedness required
  • Constant cave temperature year-round is 6°C with nearly 100% humidity
  • Wear warm wool socks, long thermal underwear, a turtleneck sweater, jogging pants or leggings, topped with old clothes that can get dirty and worn
  • Similar to a mountain hike over rough terrain involving crawling and climbing sections
  • A 30 m high ladder secured with a climbing harness must be overcome.

Hölloch Cave

One of the largest caves in the world is tucked away in the beautiful Muotathal in the canton of Schwyz: the Hölloch. Over 200 km of the cave system have been explored so far, and a large part of it can also be discovered by amateurs.

The Hölloch was formed by underground water. The cave system was created over the course of more than a million years. Explore this fantastic and mystical underground world with a guide and be enchanted by stalactites and rock formations. The short tour route is equipped with stairs and paths. You couldn’t experience the atmosphere of the Hölloch any easier.
