Description
Explore the themed tour "On the Wooden Trail through Thun Castle" and discover the fascinating search for traces of wood in the medieval donjon (residential and defensive tower). Your group follows an expert guide through the dynamic construction history of the castle. You’ll find out how the castle has repeatedly transformed over 800 years.
Thun Castle is largely made of wood. This valuable material was often reused in the Middle Ages. Some ceiling beams in the knights' hall date back to 1156, making them older than the castle itself. The magnificent roof structure from 1434 showcases unique carpentry skills. You will learn how the castle was converted from a Zähringen representative hall into a granary between 1616 and 1617.
