The Gornerschlucht is a truly special natural spectacle. The narrow gorge is characterized by spectacular waterfalls and steep rock walls. The rocks of the gorge are a unique greenish serpentinite, estimated to be around 220 million years old.

Wooden pathways lead you through the gorge, allowing you to explore this natural spectacle. The paths take you deep into the interior, letting you immerse yourself in the unique world of water and rock. It takes about 20 minutes to walk across the wooden paths. If you feel like walking a bit more, you can continue along the trail over Blatten or Moos.

From mid-October, it’s best to visit the gorge between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. At this time, the water in the gorge shines a beautiful turquoise blue due to the special lighting conditions.

The Gornerschlucht is within walking distance from Zermatt. To visit the gorge, take the train to Zermatt. Since Zermatt is car-free, you can alternatively drive to Täsch and switch to the train there. From the Zermatt train station, you can reach the entrance of the Gornerschlucht in a 15 to 20-minute walk.

The Gornerschlucht is only accessible during the summer months, from late May to mid-October. During these months, it’s possible to walk through the gorge. The opening hours are daily from 09:15 to 17:45.

The Gornerschlucht is a fantastic experience for the whole family. Rugged rocks, turquoise water, and the unique rock formations delight both young and old. The short walk from Zermatt is also well-suited for kids.

Due to the wooden walkways through the gorge, the path is not wheelchair accessible.
