Swiss Activity Tip
If the Bernina Express panoramic train isn't available on your chosen date, you can alternatively travel using the regular trains of the Rhaetian Railway. They run hourly along exactly the same route as the Bernina Express. You don't need a seat reservation for this, just a valid ticket for the route. The Swiss Travel Pass, the GA, all day passes for public transport, the municipal day pass, Interrail, and Eurail are all valid on this route.
Traveling with a wheelchair
- The RhB trains and buses increasingly feature low-floor entrances (marked as LF in the timetable).
- The SBB Callcenter Handicap arranges assistance for RhB when changing trains where platforms are not yet raised and floor levels are not yet aligned. It helps you prepare for barrier-free travel or if you need help while on the way.
Travelling with Dog
- Small dogs up to 30 cm are allowed for free if they remain in a carrier for the entire journey. The carrier must fit under your seat.
- Dogs without a carrier and all dogs over 30 cm shoulder height require a valid dog ticket: half price of 2nd class or the minimum fare (day ticket for dogs, dog passport). They must stay under the seat so the aisle remains clear for other passengers.

We travelled in April on the Bernina Express. We had beautiful blue skies and the landscape was breathtaking with snow, greenery and contrasts between the towering mountains and valleys. We met lovely people on our journey and would highly recommend the experience.
