What it's about
Emmerich Kálmán’s ingenuity and the intensity of his melodies have made this work of Viennese operetta a worldwide success. Musical delight with a hint of Hungarian folk flavour meets hearty humour and bubbling champagne spirit. «Gräfin Mariza» is a dazzling operetta classic full of wit and passion. To escape her persistent admirers, Countess Mariza retreats to her estate in Hungary and announces her engagement to the entirely fictional Count Zsupán. But what began as an innocent move turns serious when the fictitious count suddenly appears in the flesh and wants to take his bride to Varasdin. At the same time, an impoverished, mysterious estate manager, who also has feelings for Mariza, causes further complications. The rural idyll starts to wobble and a cheerful, emotional chaos takes its course.
