What it's about
Few composers have shaped cinema’s emotional impact as lastingly as John Williams. Steven Spielberg paid tribute to the composer with these words: “Without John Williams, there are no flying bicycles, no brooms in Quidditch matches and no heroes in red capes. Without his magic, the audience does not marvel, does not weep and does not believe.” The 21st Century Orchestra will bring this magic to the stage in June 2027 in the elegant setting of KKL Luzern. This film-music concert honours the greatest musical storyteller, whose melodies have long become part of our collective memory. Powerful, moving and, as always, with exceptional tonal precision, the 21st Century Orchestra under the direction of Ludwig Wicki plays selected film-music classics to specially curated film scenes and clips. “A Tribute to John Williams” contains sound worlds from STAR WARS, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, Schindler‘s List, Superman, Lincoln and E.T., which unfold in full scale, intimacy and timeless beauty. The conducting, the orchestra, the images and the sound merge into an intense overall experience that brings back memories and reignites emotions.
