What it's about

**Lardi plays Goldie** Goldie does what she loves most: she is remodelling her house. Her joy is as infectious as it is unsettling. The great Grisons actress Ursina Lardi plays Goldie with striking fire and makes Goldie’s unbending life force shine. And at the same time, it is clear: Goldie is seriously ill. Her mind is doing its best, but her body is giving up. She knows she is dying, yet she passionately plans a future she will no longer have. Her cat Apollo, played by Sebastian Blomberg, seems meanwhile to enjoy Goldie’s growing weakness: at last he can lie on top of her undisturbed and snore away endlessly. In return, Goldie can tell him things she reveals to no one else. Suddenly the doorbell rings and Goldie’s newly in love father (André Jung) is standing at the door with his lover (Karin Neuhäuser). The two are on their way to the sea in their camper van and make Goldie an impromptu surprise visit. Quite unexpectedly, the father, almost bursting with happiness, finds himself at his own daughter’s deathbed. Into Goldie’s life, through the stories of the old, the whole world floods once more, all that parting from is so hard: forests, animals, adventure, passion and the sea. In the second part of the evening, Goldie’s dying is told in poetic form. The living space of the Earth is left behind, and Goldie and her companions dance, seemingly weightless, through outer space. **Brutal, tender, anarchic** In «Tanzende Idioten», Ursina Lardi, Karin Neuhäuser, Sebastian Blomberg, Benjamin Eggers-Domsky, André Jung and the drummer Willi Kellers play survivors of everyday life and ageing. What defines them is a crazy mixture of brutality and tenderness, anarchic and metaphysical instincts, the pain of existence and lust for life. The German theatre maker Thorsten Lensing wrote the text for «Tanzende Idioten» for his ensemble, inspired by a story by the American Denis Johnson. In productions such as «Verrückt nach Trost», audiences in Chur have already been able to see how Lardi, Jung, Blomberg and other allies reconstruct and celebrate the shared performance anew live every evening. Denis Johnson is one of the most important contemporary American authors and is highly esteemed by colleagues such as Jonathan Franzen, Philip Roth and David Foster Wallace for his prose that is «goosebump-inducing», «direct without pretension» and «brutally funny». On himself and his work, he says: «I would describe my characters exactly as I describe myself: we are dancing idiots.»
