Description
Many legends and myths surround Mount Pilatus. In the Middle Ages, people believed that the barren crevices of Pilatus once housed benevolent dragons. Even today, you can discover the dragons here and enjoy the stunning views at the same time. This tour offers a unique glimpse into the fantastic world of this mountain.
A modern coach transports you to Lucerne. The guide will tell you fascinating stories about the eventful history and unique traditions of Switzerland.
In Lucerne, you will see the main sights of the city on a short orientation tour. The baroque Jesuit Church and the famous Chapel Bridge will impress you most. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the charming old town independently.
The bus then continues to Kriens. From here, you will take the panoramic cable car to Fräkmüntegg. Immediately afterwards, you will board the state-of-the-art "Dragon Ride" cable car. Thanks to the large panoramic windows, you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery even better. It almost feels like flying. (During maintenance from late October to early November, you will travel on the cogwheel train).
From the mountain station, it’s a short walk to the summit of Pilatus. The Dragon Path leads you to 2132 meters above sea level. Here, you’ll have a fantastic view of the surrounding Swiss Alps and turquoise lakes. You can then take advantage of numerous hiking trails or dine at one of the restaurants.
Next, you will take the steepest cogwheel train in the world from Pilatus Kulm down through blooming alpine meadows into the valley. The 40-minute ride with a maximum incline of 48% is a very special experience. From the valley station in Alpnachstad, you’ll return to Lucerne. During a one-hour boat cruise on the idyllic Lake Lucerne, you can relax and wind down (until about mid-October, afterwards, a lunch voucher for the Pilatus summit as compensation). Finally, you will return to Zurich by coach late in the afternoon.
