Augsburg Christmas Market 2026

The Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt runs from 23 November to 24 December 2026 on Rathausplatz, Martin-Luther-Platz, Philippine-Welser-Strasse, Maximilianstrasse and Moritzplatz. It is open Sun–Thu 10:00–20:00 and Fri–Sat 10:00–21:30, from 18:00 on the opening evening and until 14:00 on Christmas Eve. In 2026 it received the «Excellent European Christmas Market» award. According to the organiser, it is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany; council minutes mention it as early as 1498.

The stalls stretch from the Renaissance town hall across several squares to the Moritzkirche. Under the big Christmas tree on Rathausplatz stand the nativity scene of the Altaugsburggesellschaft and the Himmlisches Postamt, and the children's Christmas market is on Moritzplatz.

Luggage bus at the Merkurbrunnen
From 26 November to 19 December the Stadtwerke luggage bus looks after your shopping free of charge, Thu–Sat.
Opening on 23 November
The market opens on Monday evening at 18:00, at the same time as the first Engelesspiel. On Christmas Eve it closes at 14:00.
How to get there
- About 15 minutes' walk from Augsburg main station to Rathausplatz; tram lines 2 and 6 stop at Rathausplatz. Coaches drop their passengers off on Fuggerstrasse, from where it is about 10 minutes' walk.
