Lostallo is situated very idyllically in the middle of the Mesolcina valley. Here the river Moesa flows through a flat area. The valley is surrounded by several mighty mountains like the Piz di Groven reaching 2690 m above sea level.

The Castello di Mesocco is located in the Misox on a rock at 752 m above sea level south of the village of Mesocco. It is the most important fortification of Grisons and was inhabited until the 16th century.
