As part of a unique collaboration between Oron Castle and the Swiss Wallpaper Museum in Mézières, artist Sève Favre develops a two-part project on invasive plant species, colonial history and botanical aesthetics. With this dual project, the artist offers a critical and poetic reinterpretation of the plant world: no longer as mere decoration or resource, but as living memory, both witness, actor and revealer of past and present power dynamics. Drawing on the wallpapers of Mézières Castle, Sève Favre explores the links between floral motifs and the introduction of invasive species in Europe. From Indiennes fabrics to Chinese décors, a colonial narrative unfolds around trade, taste and power. Plants such as Himalayan balsam and Golden bamboo become witnesses to these circulations. «Némésis végétale» evokes a revenge of the living world and makes the lasting effects of this history visible in our landscapes. Driven by a poetic, participatory vision deeply rooted in life, Sève Favre is a multidisciplinary Swiss artist whose work explores the links between humans, memory, interactive processes and ecology. Her works have been exhibited in Switzerland and abroad in museums such as Museum Gutenberg in Fribourg (CH) and CICA Museum in Seoul, as well as in galleries such as Fondation WRP in Geneva, PS122 Gallery in New York and La Gran Gallery in Madrid. She has also been shown at fairs such as DesignTO in Toronto, in artist residencies such as MASS MoCA in the USA and Pedvale Art Museum in Latvia, as well as at international biennials, notably Bienalsur 2021 and the Larnaca Biennale.
