Stockalpergarten

Unfortunately, it is still not known today what the historic Stockalpergarten looked like in the 17th century. However, its basic structures, which Kaspar Stockalper vom Thurm created in the formerly much larger garden landscape (some 10'000 m2), can be described precisely in historical sources. The garden is divided into two elements: the parterre with water features and carrés, equipped with a pleasure garden (Viridarium), and the park with orchard (Pomarium), planted with varieties from Pro Specie Rara. With its carefully composed tree planting, the project connects the different sub-areas spatially. The meadow slope, kept free of trees, creates a fine transition to the vineyard slope and an intriguing line of sight to the castle. Above the cellar vaults, the rose garden provides a small-scale counterpoint to the broad open areas.
