«Hader on Ice» is the first solo show after 17 years away – and what a comeback! A Hader show is never just cabaret, but always acting too, and this one is big theatre, Las Vegas-style stage included. In virtuoso exchanges of cues, he moves from the banal signs of the times to the serious ones – conspiracy beliefs, fading compassion, poverty, climate – and to what it means to be human. «There’s always something. Either my feet go numb. Or they itch. Then I can’t breathe again when I walk faster. Or I get a sweat on. Then I’m cold again. The food no longer tastes good, sex is dull, and my trousers are too tight. What on earth is that? – It must all be this climate change, right? In summer the temperatures are like the tropics! That’s why all of a sudden there are these huge insects! There weren’t any before! If they sting you, you get a lump that doesn’t go away for months! They’re probably all genetically modified. And the plants! They’re already getting stupid too. The plants are mad! Now they’re taking over everything! Since I stopped going out of the house. My theory is that the plants want to take back control of the planet. They’re all linked underground through their roots. Worldwide! The plants have a secret plan. They want the total destruction of Western culture and Austrian Volks-Rock’n’ Roll. All of that is meant to be replaced by, er, photosynthesis.»
