For over 25 years, the duo Bildstein | Glatz has occupied public space with a radicality that resists any decorative prettiness. Their constructions are architectural interventions that confrontingly renegotiate the relationship between people, material and surroundings. Steel, aluminium and wood give rise to monuments of dynamism – frozen moments of extreme movement between looping and a radical cut. In «billboards am see», this expansive force is reduced to the surface. The photographs of five projects by the duo act as a visual surrogate: they document the original provocation and let its echo resonate on the shores of Lake Constance. It is a kind of visual matryoshka: on the Billboards, the large sculptures live on once more in public space, embedded in their original landscape, in a changed context.
