Special exhibition: Kerstin Kublek – Grenzland
Über diesen Ort
Kerstin Kubalek, artist, and Christoph Laib, photographer, searched for traces of witnesses to the Second World War for their joint project, which had a particular impact on the area around Kreuzlingen. For the body of work «Grenzland», they photographed the bunker installations of the fortification belt during two winters, from 2018 to 2020. Around 40 photographs were printed on Hahnemühle paper and mounted on MDF boards. Then covered with layers of wax, the bunker installations seem removed from the world. Working with wax is typical of Kerstin Kubalek’s images; here it also serves as a metaphor for the relics of Thurgau’s history, which are increasingly being forgotten. The photographs offer a very personal view of the bunkers as sculpture in the landscape. In the exhibition, they are also placed in relation to contemporary voices and memories. This makes the situation very vivid and real. Source: thurgaukultur.ch - the cultural portal for Thurgau, with dates, themes and people worth talking about.
