The exhibition invites you on a journey through Basel’s food culture. It begins with the Basler Kochschule cookbook from 1877 and continues through the city’s culinary diversity – served in themed tastings from past and present. It tells the story of typical Basel specialities, the changing ways of shopping, but also the severe food rationing during wartime. Alongside bourgeois dining and table manners, and traditional recipes from old Basel, the exhibition also highlights Basel’s inventions in the food industry and facets of today’s gastro and food scene. A varied programme of accompanying events rounds off the culinary journey of discovery.
