Among the many impressive parks in Lausanne, Parc de Mon Repos is without doubt the most exceptional: not only because of the variety of its architectural elements, but also because of the harmonious overall design and the extensive documentation available on it. It is also a very fine example of an English park with a neo-Gothic tower, waterfall, neo-classical church, orangery, aviary and giant trees. But Parc de Mon Repos is more than that: as a remarkable witness to the landscape garden movement that swept across Europe from the second half of the 18th century, it tells of a time and a place shaped by ideas in competition, cultural exchange and intellectual influence.
