Winterthur is called the garden city for good reason: around the old town stretches a belt of prestigious villas once owned by the city’s former grandees, surrounded by splendid gardens. In the past, Winterthur’s upper class used to stroll there in private; today, many of the artfully designed parks are open to the public. Come with us on a historical wander through sheltered gardens and take a look behind the once firmly closed wrought-iron gates. Alongside gnarled oaks, fragrant roses and wide-spreading lime trees, you can also expect many an intriguing story.
