Only every 50 years is the open-air play «Die Blutbuche» performed in Grosshöchstetten, and only on one evening, because at the end of the play the tree is felled. Director Frau Gut reaches her limits: municipal president Kellenberger stays stubborn, the extras Hans and Heiri get tongue-tied, and Herrn Schön does not care about traditions. Everyone talks past one another. When Schön resorts to radical means in the dispute, more than just the theatre is at stake.
