This concert focuses on works by the contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. His neoclassical compositions enjoy worldwide recognition. Gjeilo’s choral works are characterised by dense, atmospheric soundscapes, often built from multi-voice clusters and sustained chords. He also likes to draw on texts from the Latin church music tradition, which gives his works a timeless, spiritual quality. Alongside Gjeilo, works by Eriks Esenvalds (Latvia) and Eric Whitacre (USA) are also performed, and their compositions likewise count among the highlights of modern choral music. Whitacre, whose style is often described as “neo-impressionist”, creates an aesthetic link to Gjeilo’s music. A concert of Musikwoche Braunwald. Performed by the choir and vocal ensemble.
