Sobre este lugar

During the Second World War, the Faulensee artillery fort was built to block access from the Kandergraben near Einigen. Commissioned in 1942, the fort is unique among defensive structures in its type. The 160-metre-long connecting tunnel is especially notable. In 1941, the fort was built to shell in a record time of around six months. The technical installations and weapons were then fitted, so that by mid-1942 the fort could be handed over to the troops ready for action. Until the fort was completed, the plan was that, in the event of a corresponding threat, a mobile artillery battery would have been deployed at the site. During the Cold War, the secret facility was an important base for the operational blocking order. The rapid development of weapons systems, as well as the changed threat, meant that after a good 50 years of service the site was decommissioned at the end of 1993. Since 2001, you can visit this interesting fort, unique as a building type, as a historic and cultural testimony of national importance.
