Culture and Local Heritage Museum Oberkirch
About this place
Across more than 500 m2, the Culture and Local Heritage Museum displays valuable memories from times gone by. The collection of ornithologist Jakob Huber, honorary citizen of Oberkirch, includes a large number of animal specimens, especially birds from the area. Butterflies and beetles from all over the world, as well as other rarities, also enrich this exhibition. The collection is accompanied by extensive specialist literature. Important specialist books and specimens have been loaned to the Sempach Ornithological Station and the Natur-Historisches Museum Basel. Tools from various trades, such as shoemaker, carpenter, joiner, baker and fisherman, enrich the museum. On display are an old post office counter and a classroom with memories of teacher, organist, choir director and journalist Peter Bucher, honorary citizen of Oberkirch. The theme of agriculture, home and farm, with many tools and implements, completes this look into the past.
