About this place

As the only institution in Switzerland, Musée Ariana offers a comprehensive overview of the history of ceramics and glass – and is therefore also among the world’s most important museums of its kind. A visit to this outstanding cultural heritage takes place in a beautiful setting, and the museum also offers space for meeting and reflection. The castle-like building, commissioned by Gustave Revilliod (1817-1890), a generous Geneva patron and art-loving collector, at the end of the 19th century, was conceived from the outset as a museum in which objects made of ceramics and glass were to be displayed alongside paintings, engravings, sculptures, coins, old books and other objects of applied arts. Musée Ariana was completely renovated between 1981 and 1993 and now has all the museographic facilities essential to an institution of this standing.
