The Grande Cariçaie stretches for 40 kilometres and, over almost 3'000 hectares, marshland, lowland bogs, riparian forests and wooded steep slopes of the old lakeshore alternate. It is estimated to be home to around 800 plant species and over 10'000 animal species. The landscape is largely protected... so the beaver family has also decided to settle here. The Pro Natura Centre Champ-Pittet is located in the southern part of the Grande Cariçaie, not far from Yverdon-les-Bains. Opened in 1985, the nature conservation centre offers numerous facilities as well as a two-kilometre nature trail, partly on boardwalks through the marshland and forest, an observation tower and birdwatching opportunities right by the water. At Champ-Pitet Castle (nature conservation centre), you can get information about excursions or courses. Guided tours and offers for families The Pro Natura Centre Champ-Pittet offers numerous guided tours such as 'on the trail of the brown hare' or nature trails such as the 'Operation Igel' checkpoint trail, as well as changing themed exhibitions for the whole family.
