Ital Reding-Hofstatt
About this place
The Ital Reding-Hofstatt is one of the most valuable building complexes in the canton of Schwyz. Inside the enclosing wall lie the manor house, the Bethlehem house and the utility building (now the cantonal library). The manor house was built from 1609 onwards by Ital Reding. A Baroque garden stands in front of the building, flanked by two shade pavilions. The splendour of the manor house is fully revealed inside. On the ground floor you will find the large garden hall, with the vaulted cellar below. The actual state rooms, with rich wood panelling and wooden ceilings, are traditionally on the first floor. The Bethlehem house, built in 1287, is a unique witness to the founding period of the Swiss Confederation. In the masonry base there is a hall fitted out in the 16th century with wall paintings.
