Château d'Oron

About this place

This 13th-century castle – former residence of the Bernese bailiffs from 1557 to 1798 – opens its rooms to the public (kitchen, Alice Paquelier-Gaiffe room, music room, hunting room, prior’s room, etc.) and displays various pieces of furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries, paintings, crockery, etc. The old library houses 18,000 volumes. You can also walk along the rampart path beneath the castle roofs and climb to the top of the keep.
