The year is 39 AD. Distinguished guests arrive in Augusta Raurica. A lavish banquet is being prepared. The remains end up in a pit, where they stay hidden for almost 2,000 years. Who is invited? What dishes are served? In the second part of the exhibition « Das perfekte Dinner. Römer, Macht und Müll », the focus is on food. Finds from the ancient waste pit show that the guests at this unique banquet were served only the finest fare. The exhibition shows how the exotic dishes made their long journey to Augusta Raurica, where the exquisite ingredients came from and which animals the bones found belonged to. Set off on an exciting search for clues! Supporting programme Guided dialogue tours and tasting workshops are offered. In exchange with the mediation staff, you discuss the exhibition content, make links to the present, and if you wish, you can taste Roman wine. In the group workshop « Gustatio romana – Römische Häppchen selbst gemacht », you can prepare and enjoy a Roman aperitif yourself.
