Aargau region

A special feature of the Aargau region is the confluence of the three rivers Aare, Reuss, and Limmat. The floodplain area north of Brugg and Gebenstorf is also referred to as "the water castle of Switzerland." Here, about 40% of the total water volume from Switzerland comes together in a relatively small area of 163 hectares.

The hot sulfur springs that feed the thermal baths in Rheinfelden, Bad Schinznach, and Bad Zurzach, boasting temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius, also characterize the Aargau region.

Furthermore, the region is known for its historically significant castles and fortresses. The House of Habsburg, for example, had its origins here. All in all, the region features 13 historic old towns and has over 70 museums.

A particularly beautiful and diverse destination in the region is the Jurapark Aargau. Here you will find lush green meadows, blooming cherry trees, charming river landscapes, wooded hills, and numerous vineyards. Whether exploring on your own or on a guided tour, everyone will find something fitting in the Aargau Nature Park.

• A particularly beautiful viewpoint is the Gisliflue, which can also be combined with the Geissflue on the way to Aarau. At 908 and 963 meters above sea level, they are the highest points in the Aargau region. From here you have a magnificent view of the Schenkenberg valley. You hike to the Gisliflue from Wildegg Castle via the Veltheimerberg

• The most famous viewpoint in the Aargauer Mittelland, however, is the Homberg Hochwacht. It is also called the "Aargauer Rigi". From Reinach Nord you climb up to the ridge via the Holenweg. At the top, you have a view of Lake Hallwil and Lake Baldegg all the way to the Bernese Oberland

• The Heitersberg mountain range can be reached from Baden. A romantic section of the trail leads via Tüfels-Chäller and Spittelau towards Rüsler. From there you have a great view into the Limmat valley and to the Lägern

• A unique view of the Central Alps can be enjoyed on a day hike from the Hallwyl moated castle. The route leads over the Lindenberg to Horben. A detour leads to Bettwil, the highest community in the Aargau region

• At an altitude of about 500 meters, you will find the Hörnli vantage point above Zurzach with a beautiful view of the town and the Rhine.

Aargau is very open to the concerns of women. Some special cultural offers for or about women seem very original. Of course, not only women are allowed to participate

In Aarau, for example, there is a city tour "In the footsteps of the women of Aarau", which tells about the role of women in the history of Aarau

In Zofingen, you can immerse yourself in the Middle Ages with the "Public Market Women's Tour". A market woman tells about her daily life in the Middle Ages with a twinkle in her eye

In Villigen, female winegrowers offer the "Ladies Night at the Winery", which is exclusively for women. On a walk through the vineyards, the women learn a lot about natural viticulture and the everyday life of a female winemaker. Of course, a tasting is also part of the event, which is complemented with regional specialties. The wine cellar at the farm is also inspected.

The Freiämter Sagenweg (Freiämter Legend Trail) is a hiking trail that takes you past twelve locations and vividly explains the legends of Aargau. In 2010, artists created a sculpture made of various materials at each of these locations. Information on the individual legends is conveyed to you on boards along the way. The whole trail is about 800 meters long. The forest trail runs between the Erdmannlistein and the Waltenschwil Zoo

Guided tours with music, stories and aperitifs are offered in Freiamt. By the way, there are other similar trails: the Märliweg Schmiedrued and the Schweizer Schriftstellerweg in Olten. Here you can listen to over 60 short stories.
