Bach Pure!

About this place
At his last recitals in Klosters, Sir András Schiff began with the floating Aria from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Goldberg Variations”. For his upcoming piano recital, he now presents the complete work, made up of 30 variations, which was meant to cure the commissioning Count Hermann Carl von Kayserling of his insomnia. His harpsichordist Johann Theophilus Goldberg had to play him the work, first printed in 1742, with which Sir András Schiff associates deep humanity and spirituality, but also optimism and intellectual strength, on a regular basis. The very different variations are held together by the bass line, which forms the ever-present framework of this unique composition. At the end, the work returns to its starting point with the repetition of the Aria. “At the moment of homecoming, we feel great gratitude,” Sir András Schiff writes about it. Music as therapy? “Bach Pure!” certainly creates healing moments of happiness. This concert is supported by an anonymous donation.
