Festungsmuseum Etzel Ost
About this place
Fortress Etzel Ost was built inside the Etzel as part of the Réduit during the Second World War. The army wanted to ensure that at least part of Switzerland could be held. The once secret fortification had the task of blocking access via the old pilgrimage route to Einsiedeln. On a guided tour (duration 1 hour), the history of the Réduit in the Second World War is explained in an accessible way. You will learn who was to be held up where and can imagine what the soldiers achieved back then. Discover the fortress with the machine-gun fighting positions, the command section, the accommodation section and the various ancillary rooms (radio niches, engine room, ammunition niche). Welcome!
